My Oval -56 Evolution II starts with adding disc brakes. My friend Speedy decided to sell away his bug that had some interesting parts. I had some years earlier told him that I will buy the parts when they become available. That happened in Autumn 2002, and I ended up with a bunch of quality parts in my garage and my wallet got lightened quite a bit.

Porsche 356 C front disc brakes fit directly in to early VW bug. They are just excellent! Rear disc brakes are the CB Performance kit. And of course the Porsche Fuchs wheels come with the package.
Also, the exhaust system (sized 1 5/8 inch I guess, big anyway) was a must buy, I like the stainless steel there.

I installed the brakes, but had some issues with the rear brakes. I couldn't get the parking brake functioning well and it seemed that the brake cylinders traveled too far away after releasing the brake pedal. A small mistake in routing the parking brake cables caused the issue, and it was a quick fix after realizing it.

Some interior upgrades were done during 2003. I got a VDO tachometer and ordered a clock grill for Oval dashboard from eBay to make the placement look like it has always been there. Also VDO oil pressure and oil temperature gauges were ordered from eBay. Those gauges needed a suitable place away from the original dashboard, so I came up with a stainless steel holder that mounts right beside the rear view mirror. I got help from a friend who had access to a TIG welding machine and the skills in using it.
All VDO accessory gauges match the 50's look like the speedometer. Only problem is the oil temp gauge. It uses such a sender type, that is not available nowadays. I am working on replacing the interiors of the old VDO gauge to work with a new type of sender.

Some additional stainless steel, I replaced the old carb linkage with a hand made one.
And it was time to get kids safely transported with the car, so I had seatbelts done for my Oval.

After 8115 kilometres (in 10 years) with the short stroke engine, one sunny day, almost by accident, I came back from Kuplapaja with a stroker engine in my daily drivers trunk. That's where my Oval evolution III begins.
