Evolution three fulfills a long-term wish, a stroker engine with a good amount of torque is added along with a few other technical enhancements.

I had some issues with the shifter geometry, and eventually the stop plate broke allowing reverse to be put in too easily. Of course I managed to switch to reverse instead of second gear in an acceleration, and the gearbox exploded. That was a good opportunity to update the gearbox with a long 1st gear and have a full service done to it.

The shifter geometry problem was identified to a wrong type of connecting rod between the shifter and the gearbox. I visited Kuplapaja where Jussi cut a big piece of chassis tunnel along with the connecting rod from a late 50's bug. After discussing with Jussi about my engine desires, and the fact of me not having the time to build the engine right now, Jussi of course had a perfect solution for me. After a quick thought I ended up with another visit to Kuplapaja and came back with a stroker engine.

Some modifications to the engine had to be done. It had an oil pump with two ports (in and out), and the hoses just did not fit with the exhaust system I had(could it bee too large?). I had to take the oil pump from my old engine, where there was only the outlet port and the inlet had to be drilled to the crankcase of my new engine. After a careful drilling operation I finally was able to install the engine to my Oval.

I used my old Weber IDF36 carbs and I had to change the adjustments to match the new engine. I used some rules of thumb for choosing the correct emulsion tubes etc, and headed to a dynometer shop. With a small change in air correction jet the dyno session was successful. Due to my small carbs, the engine horsepower got limited to approx. 120, but the torque curve looks very good, wide area with a peak of 220 Nm at 2700 rpm.

Driving back from the dyno shop, I decided to give a try on highway driving at 4000+ rpm. Found out that the crankcase ventilation is not working too well, a lot of oil smoke could be seen from the rear view mirror... So enhancement number 138, better ventilation for the crankcase.

A future plan is to get rid of the carbs and go for fuel injection. A small step towards it was taken with Innovate LC-1 lambda sensor.
